A Saturday Night Out With School Buddies At A Local Club Results In Excessive And Abusive Drinking And Alcohol Poisoning
When Lois was in high school, she had acquired a reputation as a person who hit the books real hard and who rarely, if ever, had fun drinking with her friends. She seemed passionate about excelling academically so that she would be able to pursue a career that she not only got pleasure from but one that also gave her some security from a financial point of view.
After Lois graduated from high school, she applied to and was accepted into a well known program in history. Her rationale for this decision was that this subject matter would be a good springboard for law school and would not be similar to the preponderance of law school applicants who select political science as their undergraduate major.
Lois was the type of person who worked diligently to reach her goal and then would take a breather when she could. It just so happens, however, that virtually all of the things she did between terms or during summer breaks were unrelated to drinking. It almost goes without saying that Lois was anything but a partygoer. Now that her final exams for her second year in law school were done and pleased that she had done extremely well on her exams, because of this, she felt like celebrating.
So Lois and a number of her classmates went to a local saloon where they started to have a few drinks. As the evening advanced, Lois and her classmates continued to drink. In truth, she was having such a good time that she didn't want the night to come to an end.
After drinking about an hour when Lois began to slur her speech, talk in a confused manner, and then pass out, however, her buddies instantaneously knew that they needed to call that they needed to call 911 and ask for emergency assistance because they suspected that Lois was displaying alcohol poisoning symptoms.
Lois was very aware that she came close to losing her life due to an alcohol overdose and, as a consequence, was happy to be alive. At the same time, however, she was somewhat depressed knowing that she had almost passed away the previous night. Her Mother and Father knew how intensely she studied at the university and how little she permitted herself to experience a social life. Nevertheless, they also realized that Lois needed to avoid abusive and irresponsible drinking.
As a result, they recommended that in the future, whenever a drinking opportunity unfolds, that she always drink responsibly. Lois agreed and promised her Mother and Father and her friends that she would never again drink in an irresponsible and excessive manner. In her own words, "I never pondered the fact that I would become one of the alcohol poisoning statistics in the local town newspaper. I now grasp the fact that excessive and hazardous drinking is not for me. I give my word of honor that this will never happen again."
Fortunately, Lois was not only "book smart" but she also displayed a lot of. That is, she rapidly realized that she had made an error in judgment and made up her mind that she would never make the same error again. Indeed, she now realized that she had involved herself in "binge drinking" and that even one instance of this kind of abusive and excessive drinking can result in death.
