A Young Lady Works Through Her Depression, Gets Alcohol Therapy For Her Abusive And Heavy Drinking, And Enhances Her Self Worth

Emily was a thirty-eight-year-old marketing manager who was tired of feeling depressed everyday and sick of her abusive and hazardous drinking behavior. Stated simply, she was tired of going through failed relationship after failed relationship due to her careless drinking, she was mad at herself for spending her hard-earned money on a worthless habit, she missed her old drive for doing various things she enjoyed, she was sick of feeling lethargic every morning, and she hated the hangovers she went through on a regular basis.

Besides the identifiable alcohol-related health predicaments she now experienced, in all probability the most troublesome part of her drinking behavior was the unreliable and conniving individual she had become. In her heart of hearts she realized that she had been lying about her drinking activities with friends, family, and relatives and she also knew she had been untruthful with herself about the "positive" outcomes of drinking. What is more, she justified gulping four or five drinks before going to social events and she also justified needing several drinks as soon as she awakened so that she could deal with the "stress" at her job. In short, Emily got to the point in her life when she comprehended that she hit rock bottom and was now prepared to begin the gradual road to recovery.

One of the fundamental ways that Emily implemented her "plan" was by asking for a transfer at her place of employment. When her request was approved by Human Resources and by top management, she moved 200 miles away to a different part of the United States. If nothing else, this absolutely made making new buddies and distancing herself from her old friends and buddies simpler. Then she contacted a doctor in her new residence and scheduled an appointment for a thorough psychological and physical exam.

After meeting with the doctor and going through a number of laboratory tests, it became clear that Emily had made the transition from alcohol abuse to alcohol addiction and as a consequence, was in need of alcohol rehabilitation and alcohol detoxification. At this difficult time, the doctor made it a point to underscore the different alcoholic symptoms and the common symptoms of alcoholism. In addition to spending a lot of time focusing on Emily's alcoholism symptoms, her physician also told Emily that her mental health assessment revealed that she was clinically depressed and in need of treatment for this medical problem.

Due to her enthusiasm for following through with the rehab program, after seven weeks of residential rehab, Emily was ready to initiate rehab on an outpatient basis. At this time, she started working at her new job and over a period of several weeks began building up her body by eating nutritious foods, drinking distilled water, going to the gym, living an alcohol-free lifestyle, and taking vitamins.

After approximately eight weeks of outpatient treatment during which time she never suffered through an alcohol relapse, Emily stopped going to alcohol rehab and instead began going four times per week to local Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. Attending these meetings helped Emily follow through with her alcohol-free way of life, they provided her with the support she required, and they served as a steady reminder of the destructive outcomes that are associated with excessive and hazardous drinking. Compared with her life less than a year ago, life was now good and full of potential that she could have never wished for or achieved while while she was troubled with unhealthy and abusive drinking behavior.
