An Alcohol Addicted Person Goes To Rehab And Receives Alcohol Detox And Treatment For His Alcohol Dependency

Donald used to brag to his pals how he could keep a 40 hour per week job and get drunk as a skunk virtually every night. Unfortunately, after maintaining this party lifestyle for about four years, he began to observe different alcohol related issues.

For instance, he had a real difficult time getting up for work because he felt so worn-out when he awoke. Not only this, but most mornings Donald experienced a severe hangover. In short, the combination of his lack of energy and his hangovers did not make it easy for him to get up and feel motivated to go to work. To add fuel to the fire, around a week ago he received his second DUI in the past six months.

To compound things further, at his job his last two performance evaluations were less than suitable. And finally, his three-year relationship with his girlfriend had worsened due to his lack of patience, financial difficulties, angry outbursts, and his depression.

Although Donald was only twenty-four years old, he simply started looking like he was in his late thirties. Sadly, this is what abusive and excessive drinking can do to a person. And from a realistic perspective he realized that he was experiencing the adverse effects of alcoholism or alcohol abuse and that he was too young to fritter away his life to abusive and excessive drinking. So at first he tried to drink responsibly and in moderation. Unfortunately, he soon realized that he lost all control after having his first drink. Due to the fact that this was a situation that was repeated again and again, this obviously worried him a great deal. In actual fact, he started to wonder if he was exhibiting some of the stages of alcoholism.

After talking about his alcohol drinking problems and his abusive and excessive drinking with his lady friend, he finally made up his mind to make an appointment to see his doctor. When Donald saw his physician, he genuinely declared that he has been abusing alcohol, that he may be displaying behavior that is typical of the various alcoholism stages, and that he wants to stop drinking. He then said that drinking responsibly and in moderation does not seem to work for him and as a result, he wants to learn how he can live an alcohol-free life.

Donald also told his family doctor about his depression and how this mental health problem was negatively influencing his relationship with his girlfriend. His healthcare professional referred Donald to Doctor DeRosa, an alcohol and drug addiction specialist, who inspired Donald to enroll in a drug and alcohol treatment facility as an in-patient for alcohol detoxification and alcohol rehab. The good news is that Donald would also be able to get treatment for his depression at this treatment facility.

After three months of intensive treatment, Donald left the in-patient rehabilitation facility and continued his recovery via outpatient therapy and via going to local Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. Motivated to change his life in a more productive manner, Donald joined a gym and began working out two or three times per week. Within five months Donald was a new man. He was not depressed anymore, he was in shape, he was eating nutritious meals, and most important of all, he maintained his sobriety for many months. He also did not resort to angry outbursts, he became more patient, and he became a more compassionate person in his relationship with his girlfriend. Stated briefly, stopping drinking was the best decision Donald had ever made.
