Frank and Linda have been going out for seven-and-a-half years. They met while enrolled in the same Spanish class at a medium size, countryside, private liberal arts college located in the Southern part of the United States. While they were just good pals at first, they finally began dating when they were in their first year of college.
Due to the fact both of them came from very traditional backgrounds, neither one of them drank much beyond the testing stage when they first began dating. As the time proceeded, nevertheless, they began to go to more keg parties, happy hours, sorority and fraternity parties, and football bashes. As a result, they slowly but surely began to drink more as time passed by.
After they graduated, they both found jobs in a relatively small city that was approximately eighty-five miles from their undergraduate college. Then they finally decided to move in with each other.
With any major transformation in a person's life there is normally something that initiates the particular modification in question. For Frank and Linda the thought of having children and buying a new house was this "source of change." Once they arrived at this conclusion, they told their drinking friends about their their goal of buying or building a new house, about their marital plans, and about their plans to start a family. They also told their drinking buddies that they still wanted to pal around with them but that they would be drinking in strict moderation from this time forward so that they could start realizing their future hopes, aspirations, and dreams.
Unpredictably, all of their friends expressed relief because they too had been reassessing their lives and concluded that their life-styles were much too frequently focused on drinking. They also thought that they would have to change drastically if they were to become more adult-like and show more thoughtfulness for their health, their plans, and for their careers in the next five or ten years.
After their frank discussion with their buddies about their dreams, hopes, and plans, Linda and Frank basically started to have more significant relationships with all of their friends. The key reason for this was the fact that all of them had the same perspective regarding their irresponsible drinking and their short and long-term plans, goals, and aspirations.
